The Department of Urology and the Comprehensive Cancer Center are pleased to extend a warm welcome to Prof. Dr. Mani Menon.

Prof. Menon is an internationally renowned pioneer in the field of robotic urology. As the founding director of the Vattikuti Urology Institute at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, he performed the first robot-assisted prostatectomy in the United States in 2000, thereby shaping the future of modern urologic surgery. Under his leadership, more than 10,000 such procedures were carried out – a milestone that transformed urology worldwide.

A central focus of his clinical and scientific work has been the advancement of minimally invasive surgical techniques and the establishment of robotic programs. To date, Prof. Menon has been instrumental in developing more than 35 robotic urology centers across the globe and has trained hundreds of urologists who continue to disseminate his expertise internationally.

With more than 1,000 scientific publications and numerous prestigious awards – including the Keyes Medal and the St. Paul’s Medal – Prof. Menon is recognized as one of the most influential urologists of our time. He currently serves as Clinical Professor and Director of Strategy and Innovation at the Department of Urology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, and as Director Emeritus of the Henry Ford Department of Urology.
