ÖBAY2025 – A great success for the Department of Urology at the Medical University of Vienna

The 51. Tagung der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Urologie und Andrologie und der Bayerischen Urologenvereinigung was a great success for the Department of Urology at the Medical University of Vienna.

Under the theme “Together for Progress: Knowledge Exchange and Innovation in Urology from Bavaria and Austria,” the conference took place from May 22 to 24, 2025, at the Messe Wien Congress Center.

As Congress President, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Shahrokh F. Shariat, Head of the Department of Urology at the Medical University of Vienna, formally opened the event. The result was a diverse and forward-looking program featuring high-level scientific presentations, hands-on training sessions, interactive discussion forums, and even a Bavaria vs. Austria voting session.

Participation of the Department of Urology in Numbers:

  • 6 Chair positions

  • 11 Scientific presentations

  • 16 Poster presentations

  • 13 Case presentations

Hands-on Training: led by Julian Veser and Victoria Jahrreis with the support of Stephan Bröniman, Maxim Kochergin, and Jerome Weiss as tutors.

Incidentally, this year’s Champions Cup went to Bavaria, which won by a single point.

History booth at ÖBAY2025

A highlight of this year’s ÖBAY 2025 was the presentation of the newly released project “Urology in Austria: From Vienna to the World.”

With this work, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Shahrokh F. Shariat and Dr. Friedrich H. Moll have created a significant historical and professional document.

The book traces the impressive development of urology in Austria — from its medical and academic beginnings in Vienna to the field’s international recognition. Historical milestones, influential figures, and global collaborations are presented and contextualized in detail.

This publication serves not only as a retrospective but also as a source of inspiration for future generations of urologists — a remarkable contribution to the identity and future of the discipline.

At the history booth, visitors could also admire a variety of historical books and instruments.

The team from the Department of Urology at the Medical University of Vienna participated with numerous abstracts and produced several award winners.
